Code Cafe > H-4 Room?

We are installing a new battery charging system for our warehouse, the local Fire Marshal has put the project on hold because the corrosive in our batteries exceeds the 2003 IFC limits. The code says that you may have up to 1000 gallons of corrosive if the control area is sprinklered. We have 47 batteries totalling 2062 gallons, so the FM says that we need a H-4 room per 2003 IBC. The possibility of haveing a spill of that magnitude is very remote as all 47 battery packs would have to rupture and spill at the same time. I understand if it was a large tank. Are there any alternatives to an H-4 room? TIA

Jim sorry for the slow response - The 2000 IBC has an exception for this 307.9 (11). I'll do some more checking.
